LegitScript
Merchant monitoring portal
LegitScript is a compliance platform used by payment providers like Square and Stripe to monitor merchants, ensure regulatory compliance, and bring greater transparency to high-risk industries.
To support this mission, LegitScript partnered with Neuron to redesign its Merchant Monitoring portal to streamline workflows, reduce friction, and help teams act on risk faster.

Who uses it
The platform is used by a range of businesses that manage or facilitate merchant transactions, including payment processors, acquiring banks, e-commerce marketplaces, and other organizations with large merchant portfolios.
Within these organizations, the merchant monitoring portal is typically used by
1-5 team members responsible for their company's risk mitigation and compliance.

Why it matters
Rising regulatory pressure and sophisticated fraud require businesses to proactively manage merchant risk. The portal uncovers hidden threats, verifies merchant behavior, and enables fast action with real-time insights.
By detecting transaction laundering and ensuring AML compliance, businesses can avoid costly BRAM and VIRP fines, saving tens of millions annually.

How it works
Backed by 15+ years of fraud intelligence and expert analysis, the platform ensures only legal merchandise flows through payment networks, protecting both revenue and reputation.
Merchant data is uploaded, then continuously crawled, analyzed, and reviewed. The system flags risk levels, highlights areas of concern, and surfaces detailed alerts and insights.

Trusted by leading global enterprises
Customers rely on the platform to assess risk at scale, ensure compliance, and protect large merchant ecosystems.
For teams working in complex environments, scalable and intuitive design is essential. A streamlined UX enables them to move faster, stay compliant, and act with confidence.
Laying the foundation for a strategic redesign
As with all Neuron projects, we kicked off with our SPARK phase—Strategic Planning, Audit, Research, and Knowledge. This included a UX/UI audit, user interviews, and competitive analysis. The outcome was a focused roadmap prioritizing critical improvements and future-facing features, laying the groundwork for a successful two-month design sprint.

Identifying pain points in the existing design
Our UX/UI audit and user interviews revealed layout and navigation as major sources of friction.
To solve this, we restructured the information architecture and redesigned the navigation to surface critical insights and streamline access to key workflows.

Our Solution
A streamlined merchant list built for analysts
The redesigned Merchant List equips risk analysts with clear, actionable insights from LegitScript’s risk analysis, enabling fast and informed decision-making.
Users can customize the table to highlight the data most relevant to their workflow. Smart organization and visual cues help them quickly identify priority issues and take appropriate action.

An efficient yet robust filter system
Analysts can now locate merchants faster and more easily thanks to an intuitive, well-organized filter system. While LegitScript offers 15 robust filters, not all are used regularly. Based on user feedback, we prioritized the most common filters to be readily accessible.
Since users often repeat the same searches during sessions, we added the ability to save and quickly recall filter configurations, streamlining workflows and boosting efficiency.

Split view for quick access to merchant details
The original merchant list showed essential info but lacked detail at a glance. After consulting stakeholders, we introduced a split view that lets users access merchant details without leaving the list.
This layout keeps the full merchant list visible at all times, helping users maintain context and quickly switch between merchants.
Customizable, real-time notifications
New in-app and email notifications alert risk analysts instantly when new risks require attention.
Notification settings are customizable, allowing analysts to only be notified about the types of risks their business is concerned about.

Streamlined importing of data between tools
RiskCheck, a tool within LegitScript we designed, allows businesses to perform one-time scans of new merchants to quickly assess eligibility for partnership.
A key feature lets users bulk import merchants from RiskCheck into Merchant Monitoring, enabling seamless transition to ongoing monitoring for selected merchants.

A comprehensive design system for a cohesive user experience
The design system serves as a handbook for developers and future designers, documenting reusable UI components, core UX patterns, and guidelines for their use.
With many data types in the merchant list, we set clear rules for column behavior and widths.
These guidelines ensure a consistent user experience and simplify design and development.

Intuitive UX/UI design that makes risk visible and actionable
Working closely with LegitScript, we uncovered key pain points and critical user needs. In just two months, we transformed research into a developer-ready redesign that makes it easier to spot risks, understand their impact, and take decisive action. The result is a more efficient portal that streamlines merchant monitoring, reduces friction, and empowers analysts to work faster and with greater confidence.
