UX/UI Designer

Neuron is an award-winning UX/UI design and strategy agency in downtown San Francisco. We work with forward-thinking companies, from startups to enterprises, to create intuitive and engaging digital experiences to help them succeed in today’s digital world. We have a small but mighty team of designers and strategists passionate about solving complex problems.

 

Summary:

We are looking for a Junior UX/UI Designer to help us create and implement world-class design solutions for our clients. An ideal candidate has a solid understanding of user experience and interface design principles, a strong portfolio demonstrating a range of exceptional experiences you’ve designed, some professional experience (ideally 1+ years), and strong collaboration skills. You’ll work on a wide range of projects, sometimes at the same time, so strong organizational skills and an ability to quickly shift gears and hit the ground running is important. We also need outspoken team members who are not afraid to work directly with our clients, interpret critique, iterate designs, and revise concepts until the design solves all goals and requirements with no usability friction.

 

We keep our project teams small so you’ll get a chance to put your ideas into action with maximum impact.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work across teams to develop a wide variety of digital projects, such as websites and applications.

  • Create initial concepts, wireframes, functional design solutions, and moodboards.

  • Develop interactive prototypes with Invision.

  • Develop style guidelines defining a product or website’s visual design identity.

  • Apply visual design identity to interfaces across multiple devices.

  • Recognize when to balance business needs and design aesthetic against UX best practices.

  • Understand and internalize a client’s industry, competitive space, business model, and user types.

  • Work closely in a team environment with other UX designers and developers.

  • Self-manage and prioritize tasks, and proactively communicate status and challenges.

  • Articulate and document your designs in a logical and organized manner for hand-off to developers.

  • Help scope projects and participate in project definition phases.

  • Stay current with digital and industry trends.

What we’d like to see:

  • 1-2+ years working as a Product Designer, User Experience Designer, Visual Designer, or related role, ideally in an agency environment.

  • A portfolio demonstrating a diverse range of exceptional experiences you’ve created

  • A solid understanding of designing intuitive site/app functionality, interaction, site architecture, user interfaces, and navigation.

  • Problem solving skills, especially related to solutions for digital products.

  • Experience creating sitemaps and feature sets.

  • Experience working in a team environment with other UX designers and developers

  • Advanced knowledge of Sketch (including symbols and styles, comfortable with Sketch plugins, and capable of adapting to Neuron’s Sketch workflow

  • Highly organized, including clear external and internal file management.

  • Must be able to work efficiently on multiple projects to meet tight deadlines.

  • Working knowledge of what is feasible to implement on the web and in native mobile apps (HTML, CSS, JS, motion, etc.)

 

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with animation software including After Effects and Principle

  • Experience with SEO principles and Google Analytics

  • Familiarity with content management solutions such as WordPress

  • Familiarity with basic front-end development (HTML, CSS, and Javascript)

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field
